context

ReNovatio tackles the pressing need for innovative rehabilitation spaces in Bogotá, addressing the rising challenges to health and well-being. In 2021, Colombia recorded 1,910 deaths related to substance abuse, predominantly affecting men.

In Bogotá alone, approximately 161,000 individuals struggled with substance abuse, highlighting the demand for effective intervention. With an emphasis on holistic healing, the project aims to transform an existing building into a sanctuary for young patients aged 15 to 24, offering hope and support for recovery.

design value

ReNovatio embodies the principles of salutogenic design, prioritizing natural environments, non-toxic materials, and sensory stimulation to foster healing. Sustainability is integral, with a focus on energy efficiency, renewable resources, and eco-friendly materials to create a therapeutic atmosphere.

The color psychology of green promotes tranquility, growth, and balance, enhancing stress relief and emotional well-being. By optimizing spatial layouts, lighting, and ventilation, the design promotes a sense of openness and freedom within confined spaces, contributing to a positive recovery experience.

pROCESS

The project begins with a comprehensive analysis of national and international references, coupled with field studies and consultations with psychologists and patients to identify essential recovery elements. Using schematic diagrams as planning tools, the team reconfigures the internal spatial layout to accommodate the intended use effectively. A detailed study determines which existing elements to retain or eliminate, optimizing materials, costs, and environmental impact.

The design process emphasizes the incorporation of natural environments, non-toxic materials, and positive sensory stimulation to create a therapeutic atmosphere. Practical considerations such as energy efficiency, renewable energy use, and water management further enhance the project's sustainability. Finally, meticulous planning ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and the seamless integration of therapeutic amenities, communal spaces, and functional areas to support the comprehensive recovery journey of the young patients.
